Monday, 19 October 2026 — gold and silver both rose this morning.
The key news: Spot gold is near $4,176 an ounce and spot silver gained 0.9% to $57.54. The Baghdad exchanges closed Sunday at 168,500 dinars per $100. One ounce of gold now equals about 72.6 ounces of silver.
What it means for metal buyers: Gold bars suit buyers who want to store value in a small size. Silver is much cheaper per gram, but bulkier and usually more volatile.
Example: At 1,685 dinars per dollar (the Baghdad market rate), a 10 g 24K bar holds about $1,343 of gold, or about 2,262,000 dinars. A 1-ounce gold bar holds about 7,037,000 dinars of gold. A 1 kg silver bar holds about $1,850, or about 3,117,000 dinars. These are metal values before the shop’s premium.
Advice for customers: Ask for the bar’s weight, purity and maker on the receipt. Compare the shop price with the metal value to see the premium you are paying.
The honest caution: Silver can swing more than gold in both directions, and the dinar rate adds another layer of movement. Buy only with spare money; never borrow.
