Welcome to Jawhara Al Maaden’s gold guide for Monday August 17. Gold has opened the week above $4,400 per ounce, and our customers arrived with excellent questions about the week ahead. Here are the clearest answers we can give, in the friendly spirit our shop is known for.

Today’s prices:

24K: ~$141.60/gram | 22K: ~$129.80/gram | 21K: ~$123.90/gram | 18K: ~$106.20/gram

Q: Gold keeps rising — what changed in America?

A: Everything pointed one way last week: inflation cooled to 3.4%, shops sold less, and consumer confidence weakened. Add July’s job losses, and the chance of a September rate rise has collapsed to between 15% and one-third. When rates rest, gold rises — it has gained almost 10% in a month.

Q: What is this “Jackson Hole” everyone mentions?

A: It is a famous yearly gathering of central bankers in the American mountains, where big policy signals are often given. The Fed chair speaks there this week, and his words could move gold quickly: a calm speech may lift it toward $4,450–$4,470; a strict one may dip it toward $4,360 for a time. Wednesday also brings the Fed’s meeting notes.

Q: I heard the deal with Iran ends today. What does that mean?

A: The temporary June agreement expires today without a replacement, and the Strait of Hormuz — the key issue — remains closed. Honestly, this keeps the region uncertain and oil high. But it is also why gold stays so well supported: it is the protection people trust when the news is unsettled.

Q: Should I buy before or after the big speech?

A: The fair answer: if your occasion is near, buy now — waiting has cost over $530 on a 50-gram piece this month alone, and a speech can push prices up as easily as down. If you are flexible, buy half now and keep half ready: a strict speech could gift you a dip toward $4,360. Either way, you are positioned well.

Q: Is gold expensive now compared to its history?

A: It is 21% below January’s record of $5,597, yet 32% above a year ago. Analysts map $4,500 to $4,900 by year-end. The market is fair, not cheap — and rising for solid reasons.

Q: And silver?

A: Still lovely — holding near $65, close to seven-week highs. Mixed gold-and-silver jewellery remains 2026’s smartest trend.
