Welcome to Jawhara Al Maaden’s gold guide for Friday September 4. Today’s American jobs report was the week’s great event, and it delivered shocks: 162,000 jobs added — triple the forecast — and July’s famous “job losses” officially revised into gains. Gold fell 2% to $4,376 and steadied near $4,390. Our customers’ questions came fast; here are the honest answers, in the friendly spirit our shop is known for.
Today’s prices:
24K: ~$141.15/gram | 22K: ~$129.40/gram | 21K: ~$123.50/gram | 18K: ~$105.85/gram
Q: Wait — July’s job LOSSES became job GAINS? How?
A: America’s statistics bureau revises past months as fuller data arrives. July’s first estimate was -23,000; today it became +21,000, and June was lifted too. It is normal practice — but this particular revision matters enormously, because gold’s whole August rally was built on “America is losing jobs, so rates can’t rise.” That foundation has been rewritten.
Q: So does a September rate rise now happen?
A: It became slightly more likely — markets price roughly 52–59%, up from 50% this morning. But not certain, for two honest reasons: wages grew a calm 3.1% (no inflation alarm), and the Fed is openly divided — the chair leans strict, while Governor Waller says he’d hold if inflation keeps easing and the New York Fed chief says it is easing. All of them are waiting for the same thing: next week’s inflation report. That number decides.
Q: Why did gold recover part of today’s fall?
A: Buyers stepped in near $4,376 — just as they did at $4,282 on Tuesday. The deep supports (the Treasury’s bond-buying, central banks’ gold-buying, the still-closed strait) did not appear in today’s jobs report, but they appear at every low.
Q: What should I do before next week’s inflation report?
A: Honestly, by purpose. Occasions: buy now — today’s ~$141/gram is a fine, known price, about $1,940 below January’s record per 50 grams; the report could close this window as easily as widen it. Investment: this is a genuine fork — cool inflation likely sends gold back above $4,500; hot inflation could retest $4,282. Half now, half after, or simply wait — all three are respectable. Monthly savers: continue, untroubled, as ever.
Q: And silver?
A: It fell more gently today (-1.5%, near $64.80) — mixed gold-and-silver pieces remain the season’s quiet value.
