Jawharat Al-Maaden presents its metals brief for Monday, 12 October 2026.
The key news: All three main precious metals rose on Monday. Gold reached about $4,198 an ounce, silver about $61.02 and platinum about $1,701. The next big test is US inflation data on Wednesday 14 October, which could move all metals. In Baghdad, the dollar trades near 1,633 dinars in the market.
What it means for bar and coin buyers: Gold bars are the classic choice for storing value. Silver costs far less per gram, so it suits smaller budgets, but it is bulkier and moves more sharply. Platinum is less common in Iraq and harder to resell.
Example: A 10 g 24K bar at today’s spot price is about $1,350, or about 2.2 million dinars at the Baghdad market rate of 1,633, before premiums. A 1 kg silver bar is about $1,962, or about 3.2 million dinars before premiums.
Our advice: Buy bars from known refiners with a serial number and certificate. Ask for the buy-back price before you buy. Keep metals in a safe place and keep all papers.
The honest caution: Bars and coins carry premiums, and resale prices can be lower than purchase prices. Prices may move sharply after Wednesday’s data.
